A $5.4 billion investment in expanding the Panama Canal has begun to pay off. The flow of cargo to the United States following this route instead of the Suez Canal has increased significantly.
The publication recalls that the Panama Canal resumed operation in June 2016. Thanks to the expansion, its capacity has more than doubled. Currently, the canal is capable of passing New Panamax vessels that can accommodate up to 14.8 thousand containers. This is three times more than before.
