In November 2020, it became known that Paramount Pictures had ordered the production of a spin-off to the film A Quiet Place, with Jeff Nichols set to write and direct, with Michael Bay, Andrew Form, Brad Fuller and John Krasinski serving as producers. The film will be produced by Paramount Pictures, Sunday Night Productions and Platinum Dunes. In May 2021, Krasinski announced that the film’s script was ready and handed over to the studio. By October of that year, Jeff Nichols had withdrawn from the role of director due to “creative differences” and an urgent search began for a new director. In January 2022, Michael Sarnoski was appointed as the film’s new director.
In April 2022, the film’s title was announced at CinemaCon: A Quiet Place: Day One.
